经营食盐买卖的商人。旧时须纳税于官，官给票引，其引地需用之盐，即由他专卖。经营盐业的商人。旧时盐商纳税于官，而取得盐引，专卖盐于引地之内。至民国二十年，乃决定取销专卖制，听任人民自由买卖。
盐商富贵奢华，多少士大夫见了就销魂夺魄。
