释义 | 主人公 It is the first great work of world literature, and the hero, Gilgamesh, battles against the forces of evil and unreason, ultimately killing the monster Huwawa. In The Trial the hero might have been named Schmidt or Franz Kafka. But he is named Joseph K. The author, like his protagonist, knows about the value and power of words. The story follows on from the death of the heroine. The qualities in it that strike me today are its cheerful vigor, its clearness of form, its virile force and freedom, and the extraordinary healthiness of the hero, and, indeed, of the whole work. Surgery— dramatised, romanticised, mysticised—is the medium through which the tale is borne along, by which the characters find or lose each other, understand themselves, are rendered whole or apart. The twist that Forman incorporates, however, is that the answer lies with the protagonist herself. It's rather tedious if characters talk like pastors giving a sermon. Although it may not be a thriller in the traditional sense, it incorporates the one perpetual question that lies at the heart of every suspense novel: Will the protagonist survive? He acted out the hero's part in detail. His books have two heroes. It can exist by confronting the protagonist with an impossible decision and seeing what happens. Most often, the protagonist realized that they loved things that were not things at all. The only heroes are the ant colonies themselves, and they are as engaging and at least as memorable as most two- legged Hollywood creations. Like Ka, the hero of my novel“ Snow, ” I discovered how it felt to have to leave one’s beloved city for a time on account of one’s political views. We have the correspondence of the heroine with her friend, and of the villain with a fellow rake, so we can see how these combatants are deceived by each other. All of us have read thrilling stories in which the hero had only a limited and specified time to live. Sometimes it was as long as a year, sometimes as short as24 hours. One challenge at a school in Winchester, Kentucky was made on the grounds that the book's main character drinks wine and eats poppy with her meals. For the path pursued by Kafka's hero from Frieda to the Barnabas sisters is the very one that leads from trusting love to the deification of the absurd. In the movie The Color Purple, the actress Whoopi Goldbery plays the heroine. In the movie, the word is never spoken, but the camera zooms in as the protagonist pounds it out on a typewriter. In stories the doomed hero is usually saved at the last minute by some stroke of fortune, but almost always his sense of values is changed. In“The Owner of the Keys”, a play published in 1962, the hero kills a witness who sees him sheltering a former lover from the Gestapo. The author characterized the leading character in the novel as a dauntless hero. |
