testify, prove这组词都有“证明”的意思。其区别是：
1.testify是指证明某事的真实性; prove是指证明某人或某物具有的某种品质特性。
2.testify指通过某人证明; prove指通过事实证明。
3.testify用于法庭或其他正式场合,比较郑重。
4.用作及物动词时, testify后可接从句作简单宾语; prove后可接复合宾语。用作不及物动词时, testify后常接against, for〔on〕 behalf of或to等词。
assert，affirm，allege，maintain，testify，claim这些动词均含有“断言，声称”之意。
assert主观意味强，指自认为某事就是如此，而不管事实如何。
affirm侧重在作出断言时表现出的坚定与不可动摇的态度。
allege多指无真凭实据，不提供证据的断言或宣称。
maintain与assert近义，但前者指坚决维护某种主张或观点。
testify多指在法庭作证，庄严地宣称自己所说属实。
claim可与assert换用，但语气弱一些，侧重指行使自己的权利提出要求令他人承认。
prove，certify，demonstrate，establish，testify这些动词均含有“证明、证实”之意。
prove普通用词，指通过某种手段或方式提供证据以验证某事物真实与否，某结论正确与否等情况。
certify较正式用词，多指有签字盖章的、合符法律程序的书面证明。
demonstrate指通过推理、辩论、实验或以实例来确定事物的正确与否。常用于理论、学说、定律等的证明上。
establish指证实事实或理论的真实性与正确性，使其能长期存在或为人们所接受。
testify较正式用词，既指出庭作证，提供证据，又指为某人或某事的是否真实提供证据或证明。
